We just filmed our third episode of It's Happening! The inimitable Josh Goleman (this guy is unreal) was on hand to take photographs, shown here. Our guests were Jennifer Simonetti-Bryan, an official Master of Wine, and Scott Wiener, an unofficial Master of Pizza and the brains behind Scott's Pizza Tours in NYC. The show airs later this month (Saturday, April 27th), but in the meantime you can check out the It's Happening site to see previous shows.
The speech I delivered at my best friend's wedding was published in New York magazine's Summer Weddings issue. Alas, they haven't published it online yet - so you'll just have to buy the issue. My favorite part of the whole article are the little pug illustrations. I also like how the drawing of me looks so sassy! And, of course, the Val Kilmer side bar is pure gold. Next time you're at a magazine stand, ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-check it out!
I recently had the honor of being a food expert (alongside Amanda Hesser, one of my foodie idols) on Bravo's show "Best New Restaurant." For the show, I am a featured "mystery diner" at two New York spots: Morgan's BBQ and L'Apicio. Field producers filmed my every move with hidden cameras, so Tom Colicchio and the other judges could see how the restaurants performed when they didn't know they were being judged. (Hearing Tom Colicchio say my name was reason enough to do the show.) I felt like a spy, which most people who know me know is my dream career if I weren't a journalist/video person. Both the restaurants were out-of-this-world delicious, so alas I didn't have to break out my inner Nene Leakes/Omarosa hybrid (I wish!) to give them a piece of my mind.
Enjoy! Thanks for watching. And, no, I didn't get to keep the Buick.
Oh, something exciting! I've started writing articles for a tech-facing online magazine called Rewrite (it's a collaboration between Wired and Computer Associates). My first article is about designer Rebecca Minkoff's new "connected" store in Soho. If you haven't been there, imagine Cher Horowitz's computerized outfit generator in Clueless morphed with the huge flat-screen TV from the McFly home in Back to the Future Part II, topped off with Tom Cruise's elaborate finger-as-stylus manipulations in Minority Report. (I'm sure there are some Demolition Man similarities in there, too, for those who know that classic flick.) In other words, it's worth checking out (the store and my article)! Side note: I really want this flared-leg romper that I mention in the piece. The fact a wide-leg anything can actually look good on me defies the laws of physics, but somehow Ms. Minkoff did it.
It's finally here! The second episode of "It's Happening with Josh and Lauren" is airing tonight at 9:30. You can watch it online or on TV (Time Warner 56 / Cablevision 69 / RCN 84 / Verizon FiOS 44). This one was especially fun because we had Paper's editorial director Mickey Boardman and New York mag columnist Rebecca Harrington (she writes the celeb diet articles that make me laugh so hard). Josh Goleman, photographer extraordinaire, took these beautiful images. If you miss the show tonight, don't worry: I'll post it on the It's Happening website in a day or two.
